British Army Zaps Drone Swarm with Radio-Wave Weapon

British soldiers have conducted a successful test of a new weapon that uses radio waves to disable drone swarms. Known as the Radiofrequency Directed Energy Weapon (RF DEW), this cutting-edge technology disrupts the electronic components within drones, rendering them unable to function. The trial took place in West Wales and marked the British Army’s largest counter-drone exercise to date. Impressively, the weapon can target multiple drones at once, has a range of up to 1km, and costs only about 10p per shot.

The development of this groundbreaking weapon has been supported by significant government investment, amounting to over £40 million. This initiative has helped create 135 skilled jobs across the UK, showcasing its impact beyond defense alone. The RF DEW is part of the government’s strategy to boost defense spending and embrace advanced technologies to tackle emerging threats. It demonstrates the UK’s commitment to staying ahead in the evolving landscape of military capabilities.
