DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and DJI Mavic 3 Thermal Approved for FAA Category 2 Flight Over People with AVSS PRS-M3E
AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions Inc. (AVSS), the leading drone parachute recovery system manufacturer, announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the recent Category 2 Declaration of Compliance (DOC) for the AVSS PRS-M3E, a drone parachute for the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and DJI Mavic 3 Thermal. Operators can legally fly over people by equipping the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Thermal with the AVSS PRS-M3E.
This DOC is the second approved Category 2 drone by the FAA; the first Category 2 approval being the AVSS PRS-M3DT for the DJI Dock 2. Again, AVSS leveraged their previously approved FAA Means of Compliance (MOC) for this DOC approval; demonstrating a repeatable and scaleable process for compliance with the FAA.
“With this second DOC approved by the FAA, there is a clear message to the commercial drone market that the FAA is open for business, and commercial drone operators can now fly over people without submitting a 107.39 waiver. With the upcoming Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas, AVSS will have the PRS-M3E on display. Customers who purchase the PRS-M3E will be able to buy and go without waiting weeks or months for a 107.39 waiver,” said Mariah Murray, V.P. of Operations of AVSS.
Category 2 and Category 3 drones enable commercial drone operators to fly over people without submitting a 107.39 waiver. Category 2 and Category 3 delineate performance-based eligibility and operational criteria for conducting drone operations over individuals using unmanned aircraft weighing more than .55 pounds without an airworthiness certificate under part 21.
